Unix Sig By Christopher J. Fearnley @SH = SIG Notes We had a brainstorm to discover what subjects we'd be interested in. It turns out that we're interested in EVERYTHING about UNIX from networking to system administration to useing a shell. We sort of decided that I would act as the SIGs "center" or coordinator with Paul Begley providing much needed support and expertise. Also Steve Longo has offered to find us speakers on the subjects of our choice (any suggestions?). We had a good Q&A session. Thanks to Paul for sharing his knowledge. Next month we will have more Q&A - So bring your questions. @SH = Linux Notes Probably the most full-featured distribution of Linux is Slackware. So I decided to drop SLS 1.0.3 and switch to Slackware 1.1.0. It worked out very well. Then a few weeks ago Slackware 1.1.1 was released with the new filesystem standard. So I've downloaded it and will do another full install later this week. Hopefully, I will only need to upgrade bits and pieces in the future. But since it's all free, it only cost me the download time! Others are starting to install Linux, so the revolution to free operating systems continues. I even hear there are free WYSIWYG word processors and relational databases for Linux. But I haven't downloaded them yet. I'll keep you posted.
